Valencia Valencia

Valencia has struggled with both falling and staying asleep for the past three years. As a newlywed with a demanding career, her lifestyle makes it challenging to prioritize sleep.

What I’ve Learned

The end of my journey came too quickly, but I’m glad I joined Beyond Tired, even if it was in the middle of my wedding planning. Here are a few things I learned and plan to apply to my daily life going forward:

1.    Routine is everything for me. It isn’t a fun concept for someone who doesn’t like routine (like me), but I think it will be a big factor in conquering my sleep struggles.

2.    Breaks are necessary. I had no idea how impactful “unplugging” – both figuratively and literally – would be for me. Taking the time to decompress throughout the day, and turning off my electronics, really had an impact on my sleep.

3.    I don’t love it, but working out helps me, too. I use exercise to release any stress I’m carrying now, and it’s a good opportunity to spend some energy before bed.

4.    I’m not alone. At first, I felt like insomnia was a personal issue I had to cope with alone, but my husband has been incredibly supportive, even though he has never struggled with sleep. In fact, he recently started his own meditation routine, although I’m a bit jealous it helps him get to sleep faster than me!

Now that the wedding is over, I’m ready to get back to my old nightly routine in my new married life. My sleep may not be perfect, but I feel optimistic eight hours will eventually be in my reach.

I hope you were able to learn something from my Beyond Tired journey! Thanks for reading. =)
