This was the ‘week of completion,’ as I like to call it. After five years, I was finally finished with my dissertation! I was so relieved to be done.
If only that accomplishment came with a guaranteed night of sleep. I was hoping that I would see at least a small improvement once I was done, but nothing changed. If anything, I think I spent more time lying in bed, thinking about whether or not I would ever fall asleep. I decided to try another attempt at meditation, but it was so much harder to stay centered on my breathing. The end of my night was the same as usual, and I was up at 4:30 a.m. to get ready for the day.
At the end of the week, after much second guessing and paperwork, I uploaded my dissertation to the university’s system, and could finally celebrate my achievement. I went to an outdoor concert and, to my surprise, a member of the band announced there was a doctoral student in their midst who had just completed her dissertation – Cindy A!
I couldn’t have asked for a better end to my week. Any free time I have (and it’s not a lot) has been dedicated to sleeping, whether it’s finding new sleep tips, lying in bed while trying to get sleep or thinking about how I’m going to sleep that evening. It was a great change of pace to just enjoy some time dancing!
