The Benefit of Unplugging


I. Am. So. RELAXED. I know it doesn’t sound ideal, but I’ve slept more on this trip than I have in the longest time. My new husband has even noticed that I’m feeling more rested.

Better yet, if you fail to prepare like I did, you’ll find being in a foreign country forces you to disconnect. For instance, internet was spotty, so I wasn’t online; I didn’t get an international phone plan, so I wasn’t staring at my smartphone; and, I left my computer at home, so I wasn’t tempted to do any work. It was amazing!


I should say that vacation isn’t a magic solution to sleep. I still had a couple of four-hour nights, and napped more than I should have during the day, but I took the liberty of considering this trip an exception to the rule, since I would only be gone for five days.

All in all, I’m grateful for the reset! I hope this follows me back home once the honeymoon is over.
